I have started to read the Bible for the first time. If I am going to take the time to read and study the Bible I want to grow and learn spiritually first so that I don’t use the Bible like a textbook, reading and researching it only as an academic exercise. Since September 13th I have read (and re-read) the New Testament, the Gospels, the Acts of the Apostles, and Paul’s epistles.
I have found that sometimes reading the Bible can be like watching an antique black and white TV set and at other times it is like watching a big screen colour TV with surround sound. It all depends on what you are looking for.
The word of God does not come with a study manual. Interpretations of the bible, including ancient translations of the text are all creations of man, not of God. Our opinions are fallible and errant. The bible is the word of God and the messages contained within it are inerrant. I have written pages of notes and questions on what I have read and I will write my comments and questions in future posts. I am looking forward to learning from your comments.
As I read the Bible I feel like I am reading God’s word to me. It was intended for me. It was intended for you. If a person has true faith there is no type of negative commentary that will come between them and their understanding of the word of God. I have only begun to read the Bible and I have a lot to learn. I will probably never understand the entire bible but I am determined to keep an open mind. I have hope in the promises God has made.
